Purpose

As Technical Product Engineer, the role is to ensure that products meet consistent standards and comply with both internal and external requirements, including legal compliance and customer expectations. Undertake the responsibility for all product introduction programs, including testing & validation. As well as maintaining strong supplier relations, the Technical Product Engineer will be a central point of contact providing technical support to our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with suppliers to ensure agreed quality requirements are met
  • Provide technical support for customers including site visits as required
  • Support SQA with improving supplier performance
  • Support new product launches to ensure suppliers are capable of delivering to the required quality standards
  • Ensure the product approval process remains in line with the business requirements of range and cost
  • Improve quality of purchased parts through liaison with Product Management and Purchasing
  • Root cause analysis, investigating quality issues or customer complains, implementing corrective and preventative actions
  • Raising product specification issues/claims with suppliers and holding them responsible where appropriate
  • Provide product assurance through the GRN inspection process
  • Maintenance of product sampling and gauge calibration program
  • Responsible for quarantine inventory
  • Management of internal quality KPIs and metrics
  • To take a continuous improvement focus and prevent problems before they arise

Skills and Profile Required

  • Previous experience in a similar role within the construction or fastener industry (essential)
  • Ability to analyse problems, create resolutions and drive quality improvements
  • Ability to understand and interpret 2D manufacturing drawings (essential)
  • Ability to use measuring equipment such as vernier calipers and shadowgraph (essential)
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to work autonomously on projects and keep others informed when needed
  • Knowledge of quality systems such as ISO9001 (desirable)
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office
