Powell Gee Invests for Growth with Increased Washering Capacity

Moulded hi-thread fixings up to 300mm

Powell Gee has invested in a sixth automated washering machine, complementing its established high-capacity injection-moulding operation and significantly increasing its manufacturing capability for moulded hi-thread fixings up to 300mm long.

The investment is expected to dramatically increase production capacity, strengthening the company’s position as one of the UK’s leading suppliers of specialist fastening solutions for composite panel applications.

Reliable moulding capabilities for colour-matched fixings

Composite panel manufacturers and installers rely on fixings that not only provide structural performance but also deliver a clean, aesthetically pleasing finish. Powell Gee’s latest investment addresses these market needs directly by expanding its ability to manufacture moulded hi-threaded fixings at scale while maintaining the quality and consistency customers expect.

Powell Gee’s established injection-moulding operation manufactures bi-hex heads from UV-stabilised nylon. These moulded heads provide excellent corrosion resistance and help prevent fading caused by exposure to sunlight, making them suitable for demanding roofing and cladding applications. All RAL colours are available on request, helping customers match fixings to composite panels and wider building designs.

By retaining nylon moulding in-house, Powell Gee has greater control over production, quality and colour consistency. Its high-capacity moulding capabilities also provide the flexibility required to manage high-volume orders and accommodate bespoke colour requirements.

Increasing capacity with a sixth washering machine

The latest investment builds on these moulding capabilities by adding a sixth automated washering machine to Powell Gee’s manufacturing operation.

The machine can assemble washers onto fixings with diameters of 4.8mm, 5.5mm, 6.3mm and 7.0mm, accommodating screw lengths from 50mm to 300mm. Depending on the fixing specification, this new machine alone can process approximately 100 to 400 pieces per minute – delivering up to 24,000 washered fixings an hour.

This additional capacity is already creating practical improvements across the washering operation. Fewer machine changeovers are required, reducing downtime, enabling longer production runs and providing greater flexibility when scheduling work.

Paul Strong, Powell Gee Sales Director, said:

“Together, these two in-house processes create a highly efficient production workflow that enables Powell Gee to respond more quickly to customer demand. As construction programmes continue to accelerate and project timescales become increasingly compressed, the ability to deliver large quantities of specialist fixings without compromising lead times provides a significant competitive advantage for our customers.”

A joined-up in-house manufacturing process

Beyond increased output, the investment reinforces Powell Gee’s commitment to UK manufacturing excellence. Greater production capacity brings improved flexibility, allowing the business to manage larger project orders, accommodate bespoke colour requirements and maintain high service levels during periods of peak demand. Customers can benefit from enhanced availability, improved stock levels, and greater confidence in supply continuity.

The new washering machine complements Powell Gee’s established injection-moulding and powder-coating capabilities, creating a highly efficient production workflow for specialist roofing and cladding fixings.

Supporting the next stage of growth

As the construction industry continues to evolve, businesses that invest in innovation and manufacturing capability will be best placed to succeed. Powell Gee’s new moulding and washering technology is a clear statement of intent: to remain at the forefront of fastening solutions for the roofing and cladding sector while delivering the quality, reliability, and service that customers have come to trust.

Powell Gee will showcase its products and manufacturing capabilities at BAU 2027, taking place at Messe München from 11–15 January 2027. Visitors can meet the team in Hall B2, Stand 531.
